I had the privilege to be at the press site yesterday as a member of the media to watch the final launch of Atlantis – and the final shuttle launch ever. It was beautiful, and a nailbiter until the end. The weather was crazy, and we knew it would be a last minute call on whether it would be go or no-go for launch. It was a beautiful site – and there were more people at the press site than there have been in a long time.
Here is the video I took of the launch. This is not zoomed at all, and what you can see about 3.5 miles from the launch pad. It’s pretty much as close as you can get to watch.
You can also check out the official NASA coverage of the launch, here.
