I have been so busy over the past few weeks. I have that just barely treading, keeping my head above water feeling. With lots of deadlines, self inflicted projects, after school meetings, boot camp, half marathon races and the like, I am so ready for a break.
So even though I haven’t had a lot of time to post, here are some of things I have been accomplishing:
- Ran my third half marathon and set a personal record!
- Took back classes from my student teacher and started teaching my favorite subject: astronomy!
- Submitted the final pages of our school yearbook for printing.
- Applied to be part of the science staff development team in my county.
- Worked on application for a Weightless Flight of Discovery.
- Wrote a guest post for the Teacher Challenge hosted by Edublogs.
- Prepared to take two of my students to the State Science and Engineering Fair this Friday.
I always find that I get almost to the point of burn out at this point in the year. The last school holiday we had was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in January. I can’t find the surface of my desk, and my organizational skills become even worse than usual. I struggle with being tired, and I often go to bed early (9 pm) or take naps. I walk a fine line because I thrive on deadlines; I feel my best bursts of creativity come right as time is running out. However, when I tackle too much and several deadlines are staring me down like a charging bull, I get stressed. I need to find balance!
Thankfully, next week is spring break. I hope I can catch my breath , catch up, and write more.
When do you reach your burn out points during the year? How do you deal with them and find your balance?
