When Space Camp is over

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

Today, I arrived home from Space Camp completing a successful mission with Team Kennedy at Advanced Space Academy.  The last few days were long and hectic, so I’ll be going back and blogging about each day over the next couple of days. Make sure you check for updates because I still have so many amazing things to share about this experience.

Coming home from an experience like this is always a little sad, but I think it must be a whole lot easier in this technological era. All day, the members of my team have been facebooking back and forth. We may not physically be together right now, but we are still ever a team! I have an amazing group of friends (really they feel more like family), and I am so excited to see what cool things we will do together in the future. I am positive this is not the last in person contact I have had with Team Kennedy. Plus, I’m sure we’ll do many collaborative distance projects together as well.

I think one of the best parts of this entire experience is finding a group of educators as passionate and nerdy/geeky about space as I am. When I have attended NASA Tweetups before, I have felt connected to people because of my love of space. With Team Kennedy I felt that as well as the understanding of teaching that only fellow educators can really appreciate. I now have lifelong friends, and I really hope you have a chance at an to have an experience like this one day. If you’d like to go to Space Camp and are a middle school STEM educator, make sure you check out the Honeywell program.

And a huge thank you to Honeywell and all of their employees for making this week possible!
