Why do we go to Mars? What does it take to get there?

What a fabulous first day of school! I hope you enjoyed today as much as I did. Here’s a run down of what we did today.

  1. Kick off video.
  2. Talked about the launch of the Mars Science Laboratory/Curiosity to Mars. You can re-watch the videos here and here.
  3. We talked about why we explore and created EXPLORE posters. You can find photos at the bottom of this entry.
  4. We then looked at Curiosity’s 7 Minutes of Terror and why it is so hard to land a rover the size of Curiosity on Mars.
  5. Thankfully, Curiosity had a picture perfect landing on Mars this morning. Here is the first photo sent back to Earth: http://twitpic.com/ag43lt
  6. Finally, we talked about following our Curiosity.

Homework: Make sure you have your 3-subject, spiral notebook for Thursday. We will be setting it up in class that day. If you already have it, leave it in your locker until Thursday.

If you want to find out more about Curiosity and what it will be doing on Mars, make sure to check out the Curiosity Mission page.
