Advanced Space Academy for Educators Day 5: The Wheels on the bus go round and round – again!

Sunday, June 24th.

We grabbed our last breakfast in the hotel and jumped on the bus to head back to Huntsville. The highlights of this bus trip included multiple stops. (On the way down we only stopped once for food. This time we stopped for lunch, to swap bus drivers at a truck stop, and at a rest area.) We were all a little worn out for our amazing, emotional time at Kennedy Space Center, so there was a lot of sleeping on the bus. We also watched to movies: A Smile as Big as the Moon and October Sky.

We finished watching A Smile as Big as the Moon right before we swapped drivers. When we returned to the bus, we met our bus driver, and here is where it gets crazy. Our bus driver, Don, played the bus driver in A Smile as Big as the Moon in the scene where the students are going to the underwater competition and everyone starts singing.  How cool is that?! A celebrity (at least to us) was our bus driver. By the way, if you have never seen this movie, you totally need to check it out. It’s a Hallmark Hall of Fame Movie, and I imagine you can still catch it on the Hallmark Channel. It’s a incredibly inspirational movie, and it does give you a good idea of a Space Camp experience.

When we arrived back to Huntsville, we headed to dinner first and then back to the dorms. It’s amazing how even a 12 hour bus trip can feel like an amazing adventure when shared with an incredible team. I love Team Kennedy!
