How small signs point toward a great year.

I can already tell that this year will be a great year, and we’ve only completed four days of school. My student’s inspired me by sharing their “Dare Mighty Things” goals (I’ll share those soon.), they are so excited about Curiosity and the mission, and almost everyone had their notebook ready today for notebook setup. Another reason why I know this will be a great year? This:

A perfect set of stacked chairs everyday! The first day we stacked chairs, I asked my students to make stacks of no more than eight chairs, the chairs should be alternating, and the stacks should be neat. This is how the stacks have looked every single day! I’m not sure you can tell this from the photo, but I have 35 chairs. Their are four stacks of eight, and the last three are in the final stack. I have never had students do this well with chair stacking this early in the year. I do not know if they just came to me as expert chair stackers, they are good listeners, or if I have improved my ability to explain what I am looking for, especially when I’m already rushing to finish at the end of class and urging them to hurry for the next transition. However, I know that small signs like this point to a great year!
